Two decades of compassion. Two decades of faith in uniform.
By Felix Mbata, Lagos state
The 20th Anniversary of the Nigeria Police Chaplaincy celebrated at the Lord of Lords Chapel, Lagos State Police Command, was more than a ceremony. It was a living testament that the spirit of the Good Samaritan is still alive — stopping on life’s roadside to bind wounds, lift the broken, and continue the journey of service.
From spiritual revival to community outreach and care for police widows, the Chaplaincy has proven that policing is not just about law enforcement, but about healing hearts and restoring hope. It is great work, made possible by authorities whom God has used to approve, sustain, and support this divine mandate within the Force.
The celebration drew men and women of God, senior officers, and stakeholders. Among the dignitaries was Obi Glad Onyema, General Overseer of New Testament Revival Ministries International — popularly called “Take It By Force” — whose ministry is renowned for deliverance and testimonies.
EXCERPT: IN CONVERSATION WITH PROPHET OBI GLAD ONYEMA
Q: Sir, can you please introduce yourself?
A: I am Prophet Obi Glad Onyema, General Overseer of New Testament Revival Ministries International — Take It By Force.
Q: What did you observe at today’s 20th Anniversary celebration?
A: In fact, I came to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Nigeria Police Chaplaincy. What I observed is very impressive. It is a true replication of what the Good Samaritan did on his journey.
I saw civilian chaplains in uniform, free medical check-ups for police officers and civilians. It is exactly the kind of work worthy of emulation. The Chaplaincy is doing an exciting and impactful work in the Nigeria Police Force and in the community at large. I commend the good work of CSP Chaplain Ezekiel Ugbotor.
Q: What is your message to the Nigeria Police Chaplaincy as they mark 20 years?
A: My advice is simple: continue the good work you are doing in the Nigeria Police Force and in the community. God sees what you are doing and He will continue to empower you, strengthen you, and enlarge your coast.
ABOUT THE LEADERSHIP
The national and state leadership of the Chaplaincy is steering this vision with dedication. At the helm nationally is ACP Chaplain Venerable Joshua Babajide Omoyele, while the Lagos State Command Chaplaincy is ably led by CSP Chaplain Ezekiel Ugbotor.
Conclusively, twenty years on, the Nigeria Police Chaplaincy remains a beacon of light within a uniformed service. By blending spirituality, welfare, and community service, it has become the modern-day Good Samaritan — not passing by, but stopping to heal, to pray, and to serve.
As the Chaplaincy steps into its third decade, one prayer resounds: May the oil on this altar never run dry, and may the hands that serve continue to be strengthened by God.
