The retirement and birthday thanksgiving service of Rev. DSP (Rtd) Olugbenga David Egunsola on 12th April 2024 was more than a ceremony. It was a living sermon on integrity, sacrifice, and dual devotion to God and country. Held at the Prince of Peace Chapel, ASPC Police College, Ikeja, the event drew senior officers, clergy, and CPFN members who came to honour a man Bishop Dr. Chidi Anthony says “set a standard for law enforcement agencies and civilians to emulate.”
Bishop Anthony, National President of the Christian Police Fellowship Nigeria (CPFN) Stakeholders Forum and chairman of the occasion, described the assignment as “a sacred honour.” Speaking to Christian Events Watch, he said, “This is not just about being present. It is about witnessing a life that has been well spent. To celebrate Rev. DSP (Rtd) Olugbenga David Egunsola is to celebrate faithfulness to both God and duty. Moments like this remind us that a man’s true success is not measured by how long he served, but by how well he served.”
Assessing Egunsola’s contribution to CPFN, Bishop Anthony cited “sacrifice, consistency, and spiritual depth” as his hallmarks. “He didn’t just lead; he gave himself,” he stated. “This is a man who could sell his own car to build for the Kingdom of God. That is the kind of leadership that leaves a legacy.”
His charge to serving officers was uncompromising: “Let your life preach beyond your uniform. Rank will end one day, but your impact will remain. Learn from this example. Serve God sincerely, serve people selflessly, and carry your assignment with integrity. Greatness is not in position; it is in sacrifice.”
On CPFN’s mandate, Bishop Anthony was clear: “We will keep building men and women, not just programmes. Through teaching, fellowship, and structured support, we will help officers grow spiritually while remaining effective professionally. Our goal is simple: to raise people who are strong in faith and sound in character. ”
He also drew a sharp link between faith and policing. “Policing without faith can lose its conscience. Faith gives direction to authority. It reminds every officer that beyond the law of the land, there is a higher accountability before God. CPFN exists to preserve that truth, to ensure power is guided by righteousness.”
To the celebrant, his counsel was both prophetic and personal: “Sir, you have finished a phase, not your purpose. Keep pouring, keep guiding, keep standing as a voice. Men retire from service, but they do not retire from impact. Your life has become a message. Keep preaching it.”
Conclusively, the service had in attendance AIG Omolara I. Oloruntola, Commandant, Police College Ikeja; CSP/Ven. Ezekiel Ugbotor; Evangelist James Olatunji Caulcrick (AIG Rtd); Rev. Ayo; CSP Joseph Egwuonwu, State Coordinator of the Nigeria Military Christian Fellowship; and other dignitaries. In life and in retirement, Rev. DSP (Rtd) Olugbenga David Egunsola embodies an exemplary standard in the service of the Nigeria Police Force and humanity. Thirty-five years without blemish, a record of sacrificial giving, and an unbroken devotion to God and country have made his name synonymous with integrity. He leaves behind more than a service record. He leaves a blueprint for officers and civilians alike, proving that the highest calling is to serve with faith, finish with honour, and let your life outlive your rank.
