Rev. Dr. David Aya of ECWA Good News, Ikeja, joined dignitaries at the retirement and birthday thanksgiving of Rev. DSP (Rtd) Olugbenga David Egunsola on 12th April 2026, describing the celebrant as “a unique man whose dedication to duty and to people has left a lasting mark.”
Speaking to Christian Events Watch at the Prince of Peace Chapel, Police College Ikeja, Rev. Aya said he had known Egunsola for three years as a colleague in ministry and host at the College. “We have a cordial working relationship,” he noted. “Even without a formal invitation, we are partners in this work. Being here today is natural.”
Rev. Aya described Egunsola as “unique in his approach to responsibility.” He added, “His drive and commitment to his assignment are remarkable. That level of consistency is what drew me closer to him, and I have learned a lot from him in the last two years.”
On Egunsola’s impact, he said: “He is an understanding person and very easy to relate with. He gives his time and energy fully to whatever he sets his hand to do. His sense of purpose is top notch. Working alongside him has been valuable.”
Asked for his takeaway from the celebration, Rev. Aya pointed to consistency. “When a man is consistent in service, people take note. Today we see people gathering genuinely around him. Rev. Egunsola has served with commitment and sacrificed his resources. What we are celebrating is 35 years of honourable service without blemish.”
Pressed for one word to describe the celebrant, Rev. Aya said, “He is dedicated. He gives himself to his work day and night. He is a committed preacher and has influenced many lives.”
His advice to upcoming officers was pointed: “He has been a mentor to many policemen who passed through this institution. He stands for truthfulness and responsibility. His legacy already lives in the hearts of many officers. If you are in the Force, serve with integrity. Put service before personal gain. Do your work well and you will be remembered for good.”
Addressing the congregation, Rev. Aya said Egunsola’s retirement marks a new chapter, not an end. “We celebrate 35 years in the Nigeria Police Force, retired honourably without a bad record or physical challenge. He faced challenges and overcame them, and those challenges added value to his life. He now moves from employment to empowering others. As St. Paul said, ‘I have finished the race.’ We celebrate his impact in the Police and in the body of Christ.”
“There are two kinds of battles — worthy and unworthy,” he added. “Rev. Egunsola fought a worthy battle and succeeded. That is why we celebrate him today. The question for each of us is: what battle are you fighting? If it is to serve others and uphold what is right, you are on the right path. He kept to his principles, and we honour him with gratitude today.”
Rev. Aya thanked all who attended, including Bishop Chidi Anthony, chairman of the occasion; AIG Omolara I. Oloruntola, Commandant, Police College Ikeja; CSP/Ven. Ezekiel Ugbotor; Evangelist James Olatunji Caulcrick (AIG Rtd); and the representative of the Nigeria Military Christian Fellowship.
